AI Tool News: Oracle Unveils Next-Generation EHR

Oracle has unveiled a new AI-powered electronic health record (EHR), marking its most significant healthcare update since its acquisition of Cerner in 2022.

This EHR integrates cloud and artificial intelligence features aimed at simplifying navigation and setup, allowing doctors to access patient data through voice commands rather than traditional menus.

Oracle envisions this innovation as a means to reduce time spent on administrative tasks, thereby enabling doctors to focus more on patient care.

Seema Verma, Oracle's executive vice president, described the EHR as more than a digital assistant, likening it to having a resident who anticipates a physician’s needs.

In a market dominated by Epic Systems, Oracle aims to regain ground as it lost hospital clients in recent years, while Epic experienced growth. Oracle’s EHR runs on a new system independent of Cerner's infrastructure, meaning existing clients may need to migrate to benefit from the new platform.

The EHR’s user interface is designed for simplicity, offering a search bar and chronological appointment lists. Physicians can ask patient-specific questions directly, such as medical history or medication details, receiving AI-generated responses in seconds.

As a bonus, the AI adapts to physicians’ preferences, remembering commonly prescribed treatments and even responding accurately to imperfectly phrased queries.

Additionally, Oracle has integrated the Clinical AI Agent—a tool that automates clinical documentation—saving doctors time on note-taking by transcribing patient interactions in real time.

Oracle anticipates this disruptive EHR system will address longstanding healthcare issues and improve patient outcomes by cutting down administrative workload and enhancing data accessibility.
