FEATURE OpenAI to Release 'Orion' (GPT-5?) Model This December🤖OpenAI is gearing up to release its anticipated AI model, codenamed Orion, by December, marking approximately two years since the debut of ChatGPT. Orion is rumored to be up to 100 times more powerful than GPT-4 and is expected to initially be accessible only to selected partners, such as Microsoft, rather than a broad public release. Microsoft is reportedly preparing to host Orion on Azure by November. While OpenAI hasn’t confirmed Orion’s name or release specifics, insiders suggest it could represent a significant leap toward artificial general intelligence (AGI). Notably, Orion’s development involved synthetic data from OpenAI’s recent o1 model (nicknamed Strawberry), adding to its sophisticated training process. This launch coincides with OpenAI’s transition to a for-profit model following a $6.6 billion funding round, amidst notable staff exits, including CTO Mira Murati. CLICK HERE FOR MOREFEATURE How AI Reshapes Your Identity Without You Realizing🤖Ethicist Muriel Leuenberger digs into the subtle but pervasive effects of relying on AI to define our interests, choices, and even values. Her central concern is that AI’s influence could steer people into narrow versions of themselves, limiting their ability to experiment with identity and personal growth. When we let AI decide what movies to watch, books to read, or political candidates to support, we risk allowing algorithms to shape who we are rather than discovering it for ourselves. This loss of agency happens because AI profiles rely on patterns in our past behaviors and preferences. Over time, this cycle—recommendation followed by repetition—can lead us to a form of self-fulfilling prophecy. We may gradually mirror the traits, tastes, and habits that algorithms predict for us, cementing us into static identities. What Leuenberger argues is missing here is the human element of choice and experimentation, which has traditionally allowed people to grow beyond their current identities, sometimes in surprising and fulfilling ways.
In line with existentialist philosophy, Leuenberger sees self-creation as an ongoing process that requires conscious decision-making. She draws on the existentialist view that identity is not a fixed essence but a dynamic project we actively construct. This process involves embracing risks, making mistakes, and learning from them, which AI-recommended paths often minimize by prioritizing ease and familiarity. When AI systems continuously suggest options that align with past preferences, they can suppress the natural trial-and-error process that leads to growth, diversity of thought, and resilience. Leuenberger also cautions that trusting AI’s recommendations involves a level of blind faith because these systems are notoriously opaque. Unlike a friend who recommends a new interest and can explain why they think it’s suitable, AI often lacks transparency, leaving users unaware of the biases or assumptions embedded in its suggestions. This opacity means that AI may reinforce existing biases rather than encourage genuine self-exploration. Leuenberger advocates for a balanced approach, one where AI acts as a tool but not as an authority on personal identity. She suggests that taking back control requires an active engagement with choices, even mundane ones like what to watch or listen to. Instead of following AI’s lead in every decision, she argues that we should periodically step outside algorithmic recommendations to explore diverse options and confront new challenges. In doing so, we reclaim the agency to decide who we want to become, rather than passively becoming who AI predicts we are. READ MORE FROM LIVESCIENCE HERE📰 Top Headlines
AI Tool Spotlight: Arcade, an AI-driven jewelry manufacturing platform Arcade, founded by Mariam Naficy, introduces a unique AI-driven jewelry design platform that lets users, known as “Dreamers”, create customized pieces by inputting design ideas or uploading images. The system, launched in beta in September, leverages popular AI models, including Stable Diffusion and Midjourney, to generate design concepts that skilled artisans then handcraft. Users can personalize elements such as materials, gems, and chain lengths before artisans translate these digital visions into physical jewelry. The process typically takes about two weeks, and users receive video previews for final approval. A blend of AI creativity and artisan craftsmanship, Arcade prioritizes manufacturability by imposing constraints on the AI’s outputs based on what artisans can realistically produce. Despite its flexibility, challenges persist, like incorporating multiple charms or crafting intricate designs, highlighting some AI limitations. Arcade's “magic editor” allows for final design tweaks, with plans for advanced features, including Image Prompt (IP) Adapters and selective image manipulation. The cost of designing on Arcade varies widely, with intricate pieces reaching $1,000 or more, while simpler items start around $100, plus shipping. Beyond purchasing, users can create and display designs on their profiles for fun. The platform also offers a 2.5% commission to sellers with a following, encouraging monetization of original designs. Arcade differentiates from traditional jewelry platforms by addressing potential designer concerns about intellectual property and automation’s impact on craftsmanship. Naficy emphasizes the model’s approach to safeguarding design integrity, aiming for the platform to serve as both a creative outlet and business booster for artisans. The future may see Arcade expanding into other product categories, and plans for social features, brand partnerships, and competitions aim to bolster user engagement. The company has already secured $17 million in funding. TRY IT OUT HERERead All Innovation Dispatch Back Issues HereYour input fuels the content.
