GE Healthcare Will Roll Out Time-Saving AI Tool for Cancer MDs, 2025

🤖

GE HealthCare has unveiled a new AI tool called CareIntellect for Oncology, aimed at significantly reducing the time oncologists spend analyzing patient data and records.

The tool is designed to quickly summarize patient histories, monitor disease progression, and identify clinical trials relevant to cancer patients, particularly for prostate and breast cancers.

By streamlining data review processes, the tool helps doctors focus more on patient care rather than sorting through complex medical records.

GE HealthCare's goal is to ease the burden on clinicians, who often lose time navigating unstructured data from multiple sources, with 97% of healthcare data going unused. CareIntellect can also flag missed treatments and tests, allowing doctors to adjust care plans more efficiently.

The company plans to release the tool widely in 2025 and is already testing it at facilities like Tampa General Hospital. Additionally, GE HealthCare teased five other AI initiatives, including a collaborative team of AI agents that work together to offer doctors specialized insights.

This aligns with GE's broader effort to integrate AI across medical fields, providing immediate support akin to a multidisciplinary team consultation. These developments aim to enhance the standard of care and reduce the growing workload faced by healthcare professionals.

AI Fails to Debunk Disinformation, Study Finds

🤖

A recent study by the media research group NewsGuard found that AI tools are struggling to effectively debunk disinformation, especially as the 2024 U.S. presidential election approaches.

In an audit of 10 leading chatbots, AI repeated misinformation 18% of the time and failed to respond to false narratives over 38% of the time, resulting in a failure rate of nearly 40%.

The study highlighted how AI's vulnerability is exacerbated by 'bad actor' prompts, designed to spread disinformation, similar to foreign influence campaigns by Russia, Iran, and China. Generative AI's failure stems from its reliance on large datasets, which often include misleading or biased information.

Additionally, two-thirds of reputable news sites block AI from using their content, forcing AI to rely on less reliable sources. As a result, AI is susceptible to repeating propaganda and disinformation, amplifying harmful narratives instead of debunking them.

This points to a critical challenge: AI cannot discern reliable from unreliable sources, and, as a machine, it cannot independently evaluate the credibility of the information it processes, leading to the "garbage in, garbage out" model of disinformation.

📚 AI TOOL SPOTLIGHT: Daze Is GenZ's AI Hangout

Daze stands out in a crowded messaging market by offering a unique, creative twist on traditional chat platforms. Its core differentiator is the freestyle messaging experience, where conversations are not confined to static, color-coded bubbles. Instead, users can personalize their chats with floating multi-colored text, custom fonts, graphics, stickers, GIFs, and even drawings.

This freeform approach mirrors the interactive and visual nature of social media stories, making it highly appealing to younger users who are accustomed to platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

AI is another key component of Daze’s strategy, powering its creative tools and promising deeper integration in future updates. This emphasis on creativity and personalization aims to make messaging not just a utility, but an expressive, enjoyable experience.

Willem Simons, the founder, envisions a platform that competes with giants like iMessage and WhatsApp while offering a fun, unconstrained user interface that lets people interact in more dynamic ways.

The app’s journey is also interesting. Daze originally started as a social calendar, but Simons pivoted to focus on the messaging app after his previous venture, Muze, explored similar ideas around creative, free-form mobile communication.

Unlike Muze, which had multiple co-founders, Daze is solely Simons’ project, allowing him more creative control.

Daze’s technical foundation is built with React Native, enabling a simultaneous launch on iOS and Android. Although still in beta with around 1,400 invite-only users, early indicators suggest the app is resonating with its target audience.

A 60-day retention rate above 50% shows strong engagement, especially among the core demographic of 13- to 22-year-olds. Behind the scenes, Daze has a small but focused team of seven full-time employees and one part-time staff member, mostly based in New York.

The startup has already secured $5.7 million in funding from notable investors such as a16z, Kindred Ventures, Betaworks, and others, positioning itself for a highly anticipated launch in November 2024.

The combination of viral marketing, innovative features, and AI integration is driving the buzz around Daze, setting it up to be a compelling alternative in the messaging app space.
