Pierce Wright, a 17-year-old junior at The Browning School in Manhattan, has designed an AI algorithm that promises to improve 911 response times by ensuring callers receive the most appropriate aid. By analyzing nearly two decades' worth of emergency call data, Wright's model predicts the specific needs of a 911 call with an impressive 94.5% accuracy.

This AI tool could potentially save cities millions by optimizing resource allocation and reducing unnecessary emergency responses. Wright, who also volunteers as an EMS worker, hopes his invention will lead to more accurate dispatch decisions, particularly for calls involving mental health issues. His work has already garnered several awards and could significantly influence future emergency response strategies.

Data Analysis: The AI utilizes a vast amount of historical emergency call data—around 24 million records from New York City—to learn patterns and indicators that might not be immediately apparent to human dispatchers.
